Having Fun with Glass

Create your Own Fused Glass Suncatcher

Enjoy yourself while creating your very own whimsical suncatcher using a wide variety

of pre-cut glass pieces in a multitude of colours.  Your options include a sailboat, dragon

fly, wild flower or a lake-inspired lighthouse.  If you prefer to step out of the box, tools

are available to cut your own customized pattern.

This small group workshop is held in Gwen’s glass workshop in the Camp Morton area.

Upon designing the sun catchers, the items are placed directly in Gwen’s kiln for firing.

Once fired, Gwen will wire each beautiful take-home sample for hanging and the artful

items will be returned within 5 days.

This rewarding workshop is an exciting way to learn about fused glass techniques. Gwen

will describe her experiences with using fused glass and the various levels of the fusing

process.  No previous experience is necessary!

Tea, Tarts, and Art!

Marlene Van Helden is a stained-glass artist who also paints on glass and enjoys mixed

media formats. This playful art session is for the light-hearted who want to blend lots of

fun with a take home result.   The wine glass painting workshop is popular for those who

want to create a "special" vessel with a group theme.  (Other glasses may be used.)

In her lakefront Blue Door Studio, Marlene offers paint time on the second floor, followed

by visiting time with tea? and home-made tarts while your projects dry in the studio.

If the weather is great, the lakefront deck is available.  If it rains, the sunroom with its

soaring ceiling is the place to meet.

No experience is necessary, fun is the only option!  This workshop is a great birthday gift activity or the results can be created as a gift for someone special.  Very relaxing setting--make a day of it by shopping in Gimli first or attending the amazing Arnes Farmer’s Market.

Beginner Fritbox Scenes

Playful and abstract, you can experience creating a work of art with individual

grains of glass called glass frits.  With no prior glass working experience, you

will mix a medley of colours to create a square or rectangular scene in one of a

variety of suggested patterns.

Artist Heather Dawson will walk you through the step-by-step process to create

your own unique scene with trees and flowers, beaches and waves, or even your

own design ideas.  No two scenes will end up exactly alike!

Completed art pieces can be displayed on either wooden easels or a clear acrylic

displays.  If no display stand is desired, an optional slump for $5 is available to

curve the art to stand on edge.

During the class, we will discuss colour dilution, glass manufacturing techniques,

as well as the firing process for the finished result.
