WAVE Tour artists will open their studios throughout the year to host groups who want to add a private tour to their business or social agenda.  To arrange your customized, free tour of multiple sites, please call our Coordinator, Marlene, at 204-642-9597 or write to her at mvanheld@gmail.com to discuss your needs.

The following artists offer tours with presentations/demonstrations for visitors.

Gimli Art Club (GAC) and Gallery, Gimli

Studio #30 on WAVE Tour

The Gimli Art Club and Gallery represents more than 60 local artists and a wide variety of art mediums.  The Gallery opens for private group tours, days and evenings, from mid-September to mid-May.  During the summer months, private tours are held after 6:00 pm when the Gallery is closed to the public. 

 

Private groups  (up to 25 people) can view the works of  local artists and take part in artist demonstrations and presentations.  Topics include pottery demonstrations and presentations, and demos of painting with oils, acrylics, watercolours and alcohol inks. 

 

The Gallery is located across from the Lakeview Hotel and is an excellent choice for groups holding meetings at the hotel.   Take time to meet some of the artists, and view/shop a wide variety of art pieces created locally.  

Gayle Halliwell, Studio 410, Winnipeg Beach

Studio #44 on WAVE Tour

Gayle’s studio is available year-round for private group tours of up to 20 visitors.  Plan

to meet this interesting, high-energy artist, view her works and take part in her unique

demonstrations.  A variety of topics exist to meet your group’s needs.  Sessions range

from 10 to 30 minutes or longer to meet customized needs.   Choose one or more of the

following.

Vibrant Canola Watercolour on Canvas

Yes, luminous watercolours are possible on canvas! Gayle will let you in on the secret that makes these possible. Change your mind? That’s easy with watercolour on canvas. This is a demonstration that can be done at your event, conference, gathering—and customized for you from 10-30 minutes in length. Also possible to format this as a 2-hour workshop; contact for details. Audience: Adult; minimum 6/maximum 10 for workshop.

 

Algae Blooms in Acrylic Inks

Gayle has lake water in her veins, and she loves exploring Lake Winnipeg’s ever-changing beauty and challenges. She will share with you her technique for creating award-winning paintings of algae blooms that threaten the Lake. This is a demonstration that can be done at your event, conference, gathering—and customized for you from 10-30 minutes in length.

Smooshing – Encaustic in Action 

No, it’s not really a technical term but Gayle uses smooshing to create fabulous fantasy compositions in wax and oil pigment. You have to see it to believe it. This is a demonstration that can be done at your event, conference, gathering—and customized for you from 10-30 minutes in length.

Barn Quilts – A Road Trip Worth Taking 

See Pelican’s Pouch, a barn quilt by Gayle Halliwell, and the Interlake Barn Quilt Trail in a short

visual presentation that will be a feast for the eyes. This presentation requires a/v equipment,

can be customized for you from 10 to 30 minutes in length.

Also possible is a 4-hour barn quilt painting workshop; call for details

 

Lake Winnipeg Under Siege

Living on her boat in the summer, Gayle has seen up close and uncomfortably the results of threats to Lake Winnipeg. Stunning visuals will lead you into the world of challenges faced by our great prairie ocean. This presentation requires a/v equipment, can be customized for you from 20 to 40 minutes in length. 

Audience 12 years to adult; fee negotiable; no maximum. 

Also possible is an accompanying Algae Bloom in Ink workshop (1.5 to 2 hours); contact for details.

Lake Winnipeg Imagined 

Using vibrant acrylic, squishy clay, and soft watercolour paintings, Gayle will talk

about the inspiration behind her creative works and the reasons for her passion.

This presentation can be customized for you from 20 to 30 minutes in length, and

may require a/v equipment. 

Audience 12 years to adult; fee negotiable; no maximum. 

This can also be an on-location, 2-hour harbour experience, audience for on-location is

adult only.

The Lighthouses of Lake Winnipeg 

A touch of beauty, a bit of history, and a lot of interest form this visual presentation about the lighthouses that once dotted the shores of our lake. Some remain, and Gayle will reveal their locations and secrets. This presentation can be customized for you from 20 to 30 minutes. 

Audience 12 to adult; fee negotiable; no maximum. 

An accompanying workshop option is available for presentations in Winnipeg Beach, and can include a guided visit to the Winnipeg Beach lighthouse nearby for guided photographing, sketching, or plein air painting. Workshop option is also 12 years to adult; fee depending upon details.

 

Lake Winnipeg – An Amazing Muse 

Dive into Lake Winnipeg with Gayle as she shares decades of images taken of the lake from her

floating summer home and her land-locked winter shore. Swim in the beauty of our great prairie

ocean. This presentation can be customized for you from 20 to 30 minutes in length,

and may require a/v equipment. 

Audience 12 to adult; fee negotiable; no maximum. 

This can also be an on-location, 2-hour harbour experience. Harbour experience is adult only;

fee depending upon details.

Helma Rogge Rehders, Winnipeg Beach

Studio #15 on WAVE Tour

Helma opens her doors for private group tours of up to 10 people.  Take time to meet the artist, hear about her artful activities and shop her studio featuring original paintings, lino prints, and greeting cards.  Upon request, Helma will be pleased to share a reading of her poetry, storytelling and lino printmaking demos.  Or, you can enjoy a ‘mini’ concert of Helma playing her Irish Whistle!  By the way, Helma is the original founder of the Interlake WAVE Artists' Studio Tours.

Marlene Van Helden, Blue Door Studio, Camp Morton

Studio #36A on WAVE Tour

Marlene’s studio is a brief 10-minute ride north of Gimli.  Her lakefront, working studio is available for private groups of up to 16 people and get togethers year-round. 

 

A variety of options exist including presentations of the artist’s creative experiences and demonstrations of stained glass preparation and mixed-media painting.  Other topics include:  How to Use Art in Journaling;  How to Create Photo Transfers to honour family and friends;  How to Prepare Personal Collage Bios and How to Depict Life Goals in Art. 

 

Longer sessions with refreshments for groups can be arranged based on specific needs. The studio features a wide variety of mixed-media art, stained and fused glass, acrylic paintings and whimsical items.  (This site is available for group retreats and day-tripping adventures.)

Gwen Harp, Camp Morton

Studio #36B on WAVE Tour

From mid-May to October, Gwen Harp, neighbouring artist, can join Marlene at the Blue Door Studio and speak about her passions of working with fused glass and jewellery making.  Gwen can also meet with small groups of 5 to 10 people in her art workshop. 

 

Her topics and demonstrations include:  explanation and properties of glass fusing, glass cutting, fabrication, the fusion/kiln process and the end results (good and bad!).  Gwen has more than 15 years' experience working with the magic of fused glass. 

If groups prefer, they can visit both Marlene and Gwen in their workshops which are located within 2 blocks of one another. 

Heather Dawson, *Teulon

Studio #7 on WAVE Tour

* While Heather is located in Winnipeg Beach for the WAVE tour dates, her main studio is

in Teulon with all of her large equipment.

 

Heather’s studio, nestled in the pines, houses three glass kilns, many types of cold

working equipment, and hundreds of sheets of colourful glass.  

 

Heather loves to share the passion and process of glass working with inquisitive minds,

and will be happy to discuss and demonstrate the many techniques she uses to create

her art.  If you’re up to it, you can try cutting and breaking glass, sand blasting, or

maybe even screen printing on glass!

 

Studio will hold up to 10 visitors.  You are also welcome to walk the property and view the many different types of flowers in the perennial gardens.

 

Private tour location is 128 Beach Road in Teulon, just west of intersection at highway 7 and highway 17.

Melaney Robins, Arnes

Studio #40 on WAVE Tour

Melaney’s woodland studio is a scenic 15 minute drive north of Gimli . She can accommodate private tours of up to 20 people. Spend time with the paintings and learn about the stories behind each one.  She employs multiple techniques to create colourful, imaginative works of art.  Melaney’s collection consists of over 100 original paintings in watercolour, acrylic, ink and multi media, as well as art cards and unique handcrafted necklaces made from Lake Winnipeg‘s famous lucky stones. She brings 36 years of experience to her art, and thoroughly enjoys visitors to her studio.
