Alan Lacovetsky
Oak Hammock Pottery
Alan's studio guarantees an interesting experience. People see first hand how pottery has been made for thousands of years. He uses an antique foot powered potters wheel. The pottery is fired to white hot temperatures (1300oC) in an ancient style wood burning kiln. To achieve that temperature the kiln needs to be fed wood every five to ten minutes continuously for two days. It is then left to gradually cool for three days when it is safe to take the work out. Each firing ultimately consumes two cords of wood. A variety of locally gathered materials are used to make unique clays and glazes. Some of his clay has been carefully aged for more than forty years. Alan has been making pottery since 1974 and has a Masters of Fine Arts (MFA). He has worked and exhibited throughout many parts of the world including, Japan, China, Korea, Thailand, Australia and USA. In October 2026, Alan has been invited to teach a wood firing workshop in Croatia where he had build a kiln several years ago.
