Jerry Maryniuk
JerrysArt
Jerry was raised in rural Mb. (Inglis, Rossman Lake and Arborg).
Those formative years gave him a deep appreciation for nature and country living. Art has always been a big part in his life. At age 22, he joined the Winnipeg Police Force and soon became an accomplished Police Artist. He trained at the FBI Academy and Scottsdale Artist School. Who would have thought that decades later, he would return to Arizona as a Snowbird, doing cartoons of seniors instead of composite sketches of criminals!
These cartoons soon developed into his first book, SnowBird Sketches (Emil Goes South for the Winter). He also learned to work with gourds (making Thunder Gourds) as well as sculpting with clay. For years, Jerry has grown gourds and has turned them into art. Sculpting with clay has been very rewarding as well. Theme sculptures and more recently, a variety of wildlife characters are keeping him busy.
With doom and gloom in his police career and life in general, plus losing his son to brain cancer in 2013, he has adopted the mantra "Live your life with a sense of humour and never waste a day".
He hopes to have his next book, "The Rusty Years" completed for the summer of 2026.
Jerry is a co-founder of the WPS Veterans PTSD Peer Support Group. He works with Police and other 1st responders who have PTSD. Art is a big part of his mental health therapy.
He was recently appointed the the CBC Community Advisory Board and will raise awareness on Mental Health Issues (PTSD), art in the Interlake, and seniors struggling with technology and other issues important to him This appointment is a 2 year term.
