Gayle Halliwell
Studio 410
Lake Winnipeg is Gayle's first love; her watercolours of this freshwater ocean are in collections across North America. Because painting large is also a favourite challenge for Gayle, she gleefully splashes acrylics across canvas instead. When neither of those media quite represent a subject that dominates her mind's eye, she turns to clay and squishes out shapes that play on her theme.
Gayle's dive into the world of a working artist included workshops and studying with well-known Manitoba artists and arts organizations. A self-directed learner, she is a graduate of the Master Class in The Art of Managing Your Career (Creative Manitoba) and The Interlake Artists' Mentorship (Melanie Rocan). Gayle skillfully plotted a course that included artistic development, creativity and the hard edge of arts business.
Gayle rehabilitated a derelict building in Winnipeg Beach and opened it as Studio 410 in 2010. Her creative space now hosts workshops and events, is often a messy busyness of paint, paper and canvas. Studio 410 is open to the public twice yearly during The WAVE Artists' Studio Tour, and can be seen by appointment or during events. Gayle is a member of cre8ery, Gwen Fox Gallery, Gimli Art Club and WINNBAC.
Open during WAVE Studio Tour June & September. Year round by appointment.
